Reminder email

The reminder email invites customers to join your referral program after they’ve bought from you. It includes their personal referral link and code. It’s the easiest way to get more advocates, because customers are most likely to recommend you right after a purchase.

Turn it on

  1. Go to WooCommerce → Refer a Friend → Settings → Email Settings.
  2. Turn on Send Referral Program Reminder Email.
  3. In Delay reminder email, enter how many minutes to wait. For physical products, wait until the customer has the product, for example 10080 for seven days.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Go to WooCommerce → Settings → Emails, click Manage next to RAF: Reminder, and write your text. Use {{referral_link}} and {{referral_code}} to include the customer’s link and code, and {{name}} for their name.
  6. Click Save changes.

Send yourself a copy with Test Reminder Email under Email Settings → Test Emails.

Who gets it and when

The delay starts when an order reaches your Generate Referral Reward On status, Completed by default. Any order counts, not only referral orders.

Customer Gets the reminder
Has an account Once ever, after their next order that reaches the status. Customers who ordered before you turned the reminder on get it after their next order.
Guest Only after their first order, and only if Enable referral links for guests is on. The plugin creates a referral code for them.

The reminder is sent by WP-Cron, WordPress’s task scheduler. WP-Cron runs when someone visits your site, so on quiet sites the email can arrive later than the delay. If your host turned WP-Cron off with DISABLE_WP_CRON, make sure a server cron job runs wp-cron.php, or reminders are never sent.

Disable sending of emails doesn’t stop the reminder. To stop it, turn off Send Referral Program Reminder Email.

Don’t send it to some roles

To skip the reminder for customers with certain roles, such as wholesale customers, use this snippet. Read Add code snippets safely first. Checked with version 4.4.12.

add_filter( 'wpgens_raf_disallowed_email_roles', function ( $roles ) {
    $roles[] = 'wholesale_customer';
    return $roles;
} );

Check it worked

  1. Set Delay reminder email to 1 for now.
  2. Place a test order with a new customer account and mark it with your reward status.
  3. Visit any page on your site after a minute, so WP-Cron runs.
  4. The customer should get the reminder with their link. Set the delay back afterwards.

If it doesn’t arrive, see Emails not arriving.
