Activating Your License and Updates

Last updated

Revenue First Analytics needs an active license key to receive plugin updates. The key is in your wpgens.com purchase receipt email and on your purchase history page. Enter it in Rev Analytics > Settings, in the License & Updates card, and click Activate. Once the license is active, new versions appear on the Plugins screen and under Dashboard > Updates like any other plugin.

Where do you find your license key?

  • Purchase receipt email: sent by wpgens.com right after checkout, with the key and the download link.
  • Purchase history: log in to wpgens.com and open your purchase history. Each purchase lists its license key and the plugin download.

Activate the license on your site

  1. Install and activate the plugin as described in Getting Started with Revenue First Analytics.
  2. Open Rev Analytics and click the gear icon in the top bar to open Settings.
  3. The License & Updates card is the first card. Paste your key into the License key field and click Activate (or press Enter).
  4. A green dot and the message License active. Updates are enabled. (or License active until [date]. Updates are enabled.) confirm the activation. The card shows your key masked, with only its last four characters visible.

Activation contacts wpgens.com once and records your site URL against the license. The key is stored on your site only after wpgens.com reports it as valid; if activation fails, the card shows the reason and nothing is stored. The site needs to be able to reach https://wpgens.com for activation, status checks and updates.

What do the status messages mean?

The card checks the license with wpgens.com and caches the result for 12 hours. Activating or deactivating refreshes it immediately.

How do updates show up?

With an active license the plugin joins WordPress’s regular update check. When wpgens.com has a newer version, you see it in the same places as every other plugin:

  • On the Plugins screen, an update notice under the Revenue First Analytics row with an update now link and a View version details link that opens the changelog.
  • Under Dashboard > Updates, where you can update it together with other plugins.
  • In the update count badge on the admin menu.

Updating keeps your settings, goals, funnels and all analytics data; the database tables are upgraded in place if the new version needs it. You can also download the latest zip from your purchase history and upload it over the installed version at any time.

Move the license to another site

Each activation is tied to a site URL. To move it:

  1. On the old site, open Settings and click Deactivate site in the License & Updates card. Confirm the dialog. The slot is released and the key is removed from that site.
  2. On the new site, enter the key and click Activate.

If the old site no longer exists, manage the activations from your purchase history on wpgens.com instead. Deactivating the license does not affect tracking or reports on either site.

What happens when the license expires?

The plugin keeps working. Tracking, attribution, reports, goals, funnels and integrations do not check the license and are never switched off. What stops is updates: WordPress no longer offers new versions, and the card shows Your license expired on [date]. Renew it to keep receiving updates.

Renew the license

Renew from your purchase history on wpgens.com. Because the status is cached for 12 hours, the card may still say expired right after renewing. To refresh it immediately, click Deactivate site, then enter the same key and click Activate again. The next update check will then include the plugin.

Every other setting on the screen is covered in Revenue First Analytics Settings Explained.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Revenue First Analytics stop working without a license key?
No. Tracking, reports and integrations work without a key. The key only unlocks automatic updates; without it you have to download new versions from your purchase history and upload them manually.
I lost my license key. Where can I get it again?
Log in to wpgens.com and open the purchase history page. Every purchase lists its license key next to the download.
I renewed, but the card still says the license expired. Why?
The license status is cached for 12 hours. Click Deactivate site and then Activate again with the same key to refresh it right away.
Is the license key sent anywhere else?
No. The key is sent only to wpgens.com, for activation, status checks and update checks, together with your site URL. It is stored in your WordPress options and shown masked in the dashboard.
