If your store collects product reviews with Customer Reviews for WooCommerce (also known as CusRev), you can reward shoppers with loyalty points for the reviews they leave. Both Points and Rewards for WooCommerce and Loyalty Program for WooCommerce include built-in support for CusRev, so approved reviews earn points automatically and a points earning message can appear above the CusRev review form. No custom code is required.
How the CusRev Integration Works
Customer Reviews for WooCommerce does not replace the native WooCommerce review system. It stores reviews as standard WooCommerce reviews and fires the same WordPress events that regular reviews use. Because the loyalty plugin already awards review points from those events, points are granted for CusRev reviews without any extra setup. When a review is approved, the plugin credits the review author with the number of points you set for the product review action.
What You Need
- Customer Reviews for WooCommerce installed and active.
- Points and Rewards for WooCommerce or Loyalty Program for WooCommerce installed and active.
- The Product review earning action enabled, with a points value greater than zero.
- The reviewer signed in as a registered user, or leaving the review with the email address that matches their account.
When and How Points Are Awarded
Points are awarded when a review is approved, not at the moment it is submitted. Customer Reviews for WooCommerce marks reviews from regular customers as pending until you approve them, which is normal moderation behavior. As soon as you approve the review, the points are credited automatically to the reviewer.
The reviewer must be a registered user, and the email address on the review must match a user account, so the plugin can attribute the points to the right person. Guest reviews, and reviews left with an email that does not match any account, do not earn points. This is intentional, because loyalty points must belong to a real customer balance.
Show a Points Earning Message Above the Review Form
To encourage more reviews, the plugin can display a short message above the review form that tells shoppers how many points they will earn. Customer Reviews for WooCommerce renders its own review form, so the plugin hooks into the CusRev form directly to display the same earning notice you already use for native WooCommerce reviews. The message text and icon come from your existing branding settings, so it matches the rest of your store automatically.
Setup Steps
- Install and activate Customer Reviews for WooCommerce from the WordPress plugin repository.
- Install and activate Points and Rewards for WooCommerce or Loyalty Program for WooCommerce.
- Open the plugin settings and go to the earning points section (Ways to Earn).
- Enable the Product review action and set the number of points to award for a review.
- Enable the earning message above the review form in your display or branding settings, if you want shoppers to see how many points a review is worth.
- Test it. Leave a review as a registered customer whose email matches their account, then approve the review. Confirm the points appear in that customer’s balance.
Troubleshooting
- No points after submitting a review. Points are awarded on approval, not on submission. Approve the review and check the balance again.
- The review was left as a guest or with a different email. Points can only be attributed to a registered account. Ask the customer to review while signed in, or with the email address on their account.
- The earning message does not appear. Make sure the option to show points earning above the review form is enabled, and that the Product review action has a points value greater than zero.
- The Product review action is disabled or set to zero. Enable it and set a positive points value in the earning points settings.
