If you are sure that someone made an order through a referral link, and the person whose link was used did not get a coupon code, read below how to troubleshoot:
1. First, make sure that the order is marked as Complete. Coupon codes are sent only once the order is marked as Complete.
2. If the order was completed, on the right side of the order edit screen, look for the Refer a Friend Data box. This box should give a clue about what is happening. The box should look like the image below, except that referral notes should say that all is fine and the coupon will be generated:
Under the referral notes, you should see a message explaining why the coupon code was not generated. It could be a potential fraud detection, which could be due to the person using their own referral code or using a different email address but the same billing address.
It could also be due to the fact that you allow referring only new users, and the person referred an existing user – you can change this under the General settings of the plugin.
3. If, instead of this box, you see a message that says “No referral data”, that means that the order was not saved as referred order. This happens if the cookie was not presented during the checkout process.
